Ahh, Bali! Year after year, travellers from around the world flock to the island for a chance to experience pristine beaches, lush jungles, and vibrant culture.
Although Bali is a popular tourist destination, you can still find off-the-beaten-path locations where the tourists are few, and the adventures are plentiful.
The village of Sidemen is a hidden gem in East Bali that’ll show you a gorgeous area of the island. It’s jam-packed with natural beauty, activities, and opportunities to see the real Bali.
We’re going to look at the 5 best things to do in Sidemen, Bali.
After years of experience hosting our authentic accommodation Villa Uma Dewi Sri in the area, we know the region like the back of our hands. So, pack your bags and put on your travel shoes because we’re heading to Sidemen!
Trek Through Rice Fields
Sidemen is known for its gorgeous green rice fields that stretch as far as the eye can see.
Local Balinese people have been farming rice for thousands of years, and the crop is deeply rooted in the culture. What better way to experience the region than to trek through rice terraces?
You’ll be walking through the history of dozens of generations and soaking in the breathtaking scenery.
We mapped out one of our favourite trails through the rice fields, which you can access here (we’ve included a few other options, as well). It’s a moderate 4.8-kilometre loop that takes about an hour and a half to complete. If you’re interested in hiking with a guide, you can book a tour with Sidemen Tour & Trekking.
Yoga with a View
Breathe in, breathe out, and stretch away your stress with some yoga in Sidemen.
At our accommodation, we have a go-to instructor named Komang, who hosts private sessions in our lovely garden. You’ll have a picture-perfect view of the region as your instructor guides you through a healing flow of movements.
Komang’s wonderful yoga therapy, Bali yoga massage, and foot reflexology treatments will leave you feeling refreshed, recharged, and realigned with your inner self.
If you’re not staying with us, don’t worry! You can reserve yoga sessions with Komang wherever you are staying in Sidemen, and he will provide all the necessary supplies.
Learn more about his services and contact him on his website or through his Instagram!
Relax at Villa Uma Dewi Sri
When you stay with us at Villa Uma Dewi Sri, we, of course, encourage our guests to explore the area. But our villas are also the perfect spot to kick back and relax.
You’ll have the option of floating in the infinity pool, walking through the garden, and sitting out on the patio enjoying the beautiful views. Our property is a little slice of paradise, and there’s nothing we love more than seeing guests fall in love with it.
Don’t forget that when you stay with us, you can book personal massages, trekking tours, private candlelit dinners, and so much more. We’re more than happy to offer local recommendations, so feel free to reach out!
Take a Silver Class
Have you ever wanted to take a private jewellery-making class? Well, now’s your chance.
Over at Agung Silver, you can sign up for private lessons and learn the process of crafting silver. Your instructor will lead you through melting, flattening, shaping, designing, and polishing the metal. Whether you create a ring or a bracelet, it will be a memorable piece of jewellery that will always connect you back to your time in Bali.
Even if you don’t sign up for a private class, we recommend you at least stop by Agung Silver.
The founder of the shop, Mr. Agung, has been making handcrafted jewellery for a number of years and selflessly donates a percentage of his earnings in hopes of creating a brighter future. Read more about Agung Silver on the shop’s Instagram and website!
Watch the Sunrise from Mt. Agung (All-day Trek)
If you’re interested in an all-day adventure, look no further! Mount Agung is the tallest mountain in Bali, and when you stay in Sidemen, you’ll have the chance to hike to the top and watch the sunrise.
The trek to the summit takes about 4 hours and requires a local guide. Your adventure will begin around 2am when you’re picked up and brought to the beginning of the trail.
You can find more information about Mount Agung and book your guided hike here!
